While many of us fondly remember the first pair of roller blades we might have got for a birthday or for Christmas, it has been awhile since a lot of us have taken a spin on the ‘blades’. The 1990s saw the incredibly quick rise of the sport, with a fully fledged professional league emerging quickly and occupying NHL rinks in the off-months. However, roller hockey slowly seemed to decline in popularity, and now the Roller Hockey Alliance (RHA) has set about to reverse that trend. 

 

The Roller Hockey Alliance “has been created by many of the leaders within the roller hockey industry in an effort to help unite and grow the sport,” notes the RHA’s website. A new customer to Goalline, RHA is focusing on the grassroots of the sport, noting that it is access to the thousands of local rinks out there who are the gate keepers to growth in the sport. 

 

As RHA notes, the key to bringing back roller hockey is to unite efforts, and educate people about the sport, including coaches, which they are undertaking through their coaching certification program. Another neat undertaking RHA is spearheading is to develop a database of roller hockey friendly rinks, which will be significantly enhanced through Goalline’s database capabilities, so anyone interested in the sport can find a rink that supports the sport near them, and hopefully find a league or mentor to get them involved in the game.

The RHA is the vehicle for playes, parents, coaches, refs, rink owners, tournament directors, sponsors and supports to finally unite.”
